A rare desert landscape of climbing, trails, wildlife, and open space.
Just minutes from St. George, Greater Moe's Valley is a vast red rock ecosystem of sandstone cliffs, winding trails, dark skies, and fragile desert habitat. Known worldwide for its bouldering, it is only one part of a much larger landscape that also holds the Zen Trail, the Bear Claw Poppy system, Green Valley Gap, miles of riding and hiking, and habitat for species found almost nowhere else. Much of it lies within Zone 6 of the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve on state trust lands, which carry no permanent protection. These maps and resources show what makes this place worth protecting.
Temporary Parking Update
The longtime Moe's Valley parking area has closed as construction begins on the City of St. George's new trailhead. While it's difficult to say goodbye to a place that has been the starting point for countless climbing days, rides, and adventures, the new trailhead will provide improved access along with restrooms, drinking water, and other amenities.
During construction, temporary public parking is available within the nearby fenced City-owned property. Please park only in the designated area, follow posted signs, and treat the site with respect so this temporary access can remain available until the new trailhead is complete.

Why it matters
Protected today - but not permanently
More than 3,400 acres of Greater Moe's Valley could be removed from the protections tied to the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve. Those protections are linked to the Northern Corridor project - and if that project changes, the conservation lands could lose their status too. Without it:
- Public recreation access could be reduced or permanently lost.
- Habitat for the threatened Mojave Desert Tortoise could be fragmented.
- Habitat for the endangered Dwarf Bear Poppy could be impacted.
- State trust land could be sold and developed, permanently altering the landscape.
